  1. The sooner the better! FAFSA is basically income and first-come first serve...Late February early march is the ideal time to apply. Most people have to wait  until after they've filed their taxes (the info is needed to complete the application) So, get your taxes filed ASAP, then go straight to filling out your FAFSA. If you haven't done so yet, do so i a hurry; a lot of the federal aid has been awarded already!

  2. As soon after Jan 1st as possible in During your Senior year in high school.

  3. You'll have to wait until your parents get next year's income tax to completely fill it out. You can start handing them in January 1st of next year. Make sure you check your state's deadlines, because they're usually different. Also, check what the colleges your interested in say about FAFSA's deadlines. Just fill it out and hand it in as soon as possible!

  4. If your going to go to school this Fall then do it now.  If your going to wait until next Fall, your going to have to wait until Jan. to fill it out because they need your tax info from the previous year.

  5. Getting a "pin" number (and one for your parents) is also important.  You can access your FAFSA information on line, and electronically sign your FAFSA rather than mail it.  You have to get the pin to submit the FAFSA.  You can do this now.  Go to this site: http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/before001.htm

And start the process by reading the section marked "Before Beginning a FAFSA".  Great resource and all the information we needed.  We start filling out our FAFSA January 1st, - you can "save" and finish filling it out after the taxes are complete.  Some colleges award $ first come, first serve - so it is very important to submit the FAFSA earlier than later.  Good luck

  6. You need to fill it out in January of your senior year (so for you, it'd be January 2009).

You need to apply (you don't need your acceptance letter in order to file it), but it's good if you've at least submitted the application.

  7. You actually need to fill out the FAFSA as soon as possible.  The best way to remember to fill out the FAFSA is "file taxes, fill out FAFSA."  All states have different priority deadlines, and financial aid is a very lengthy process so the longer you wait, the more delayed your aid will be. The FAFSA can be completed as early as January 1st.
