  1. I also foster baby kittens. This is how I handle it

Formula only until about a month old then formula mixed with a spoonful of canned kitten food for about a week then gradually increase the food and decrease the formula for about 3 weeks. At this time I introduce dry food as a supplement.

They should stay on kitten food for at least a year. It is higher in calories and in calcium which the adult cat does not need and would not be a good idea because of the urinary problems

Friskies makes a good canned food that will work for both kittens and adult cats.  Might want to look into that also.

  2. They should get kitten food until they are 1 year old, can or dry or both

  3. usually around a year u need to make sure they get all the proper vitamins and nutrients that is provide in a kitten food mix. adult food is not properly balanced for a kitten and can make them sick or have diarrhoea. they r equal to a baby human in regards to feeding u don't start them on adult food.

  4. I asked my vet the same question and he told me that kittens should be feed kitten food for the first year and then you can switch them over to adult food.  Kitten food has the nutrients they need and its easier for them to digest.

I got my kitten when he was 6 weeks old and even at 11 weeks they may not have the teeth for chewing up hard food. Moisten it with water or you can try wet food.

Good luck with your little meow meows!

  5. First of all, you are a great person for sharing your home with fosters... But as for your question, they should remain on kitten food until they are a year old. Kitten food contains many nutrients that are very important to the growth of your ones and they are growing and developing at a pretty considerable rate until their first birthday.

  6. Kitten food is really a marketing gimmick.  If you're feeding a high quality food, it's suitable for all life stages.  My foster kittens all get Innova's EVO and they thrive.  Compare the nutritional analysis on a bag/can of EVO, with one of the "kitten chow" formulations.  I can promise you that there is more nutrition in the EVO (and any of the premium foods) than in the special kitten formulas from the grocery store.  It's really all about nutrition, protein, and nutrients than a special formula.

Other brands suitable for all life stages:  California Natural, Wellness, and Solid Gold.  I'm sure there are others, but these are the ones I use.
