How normal is it to take SAT classes that cost a lot of money?

Do you usually take it early in the school year or late?

  1. you dont have to take the PSAT. it isnt really much like the actual SAT. i took it because it was required by my school. i have heard mixed reviews about the SAT classes. a private tutor would probably be better. for the first time, i didnt really do anything, i studied by myself a little and i did okay. for the second time, i got a tutor once a week and took lots of practice tests. i recommend taking them early that way you have plenty of time to take them again and time to take subject tests if you want to. i recommend december of junior year. if you dont feel comfortable by december, my school told us you should definitely take them for the first time by march. it will save you time in the long run. good luck! =]

  2. The SAT is geared toward end of the year juniors and beginning seniors. It is recommended that you take the SAT at least the first time towards the end of your junior year, that way if you want to improve your score, you can retake the test quite a few more times.

As for the PSAT, I think it is very beneficial. It gives you a lot of practice for the real thing. Not to mention, you are entered into the National Merit Scholarship Competition. Personally, I did a lot of practice for the PSAT, did pretty well, then reviewed a little for my SAT and aced it.
