Question:

When do most teachers get hired in Texas?

I am hoping to move to San Antonio, TX this summer, but need to get a teaching job first. I am in the process of getting certified...just waiting for everything to be processed. I have applied to several districts in the area and have sent my resume to individual schools. As of today, I have not heard anything from anyone. Does anyone know if schools hire more towards the end of the summer? I don't want to be impatient, but we can't move until I have a job locked in.

  1. As California school districts aren't really hiring, I've been thinking about moving to Texas as well since I have relatives there. If I remember correctly, they tend to hire from late April to early August and again in Late November-early December.

I'm surprised you haven't heard anything as several Texas districts have sent recruiters to California, which has laid off some teachers. However, it all depends on the subject. You will find more opportunities with a science credential, especially with an emphasis on physics (if you know physics, then you know math and they'll place you there), than you will with a fine arts credential.

  2. some do it at the beginning of the summer and some wait til the last minute. depends on when the position opens up.
