  1. it would be simple to say when they are hungry, and I think that is about right. they eat late at tapas bars

  2. This seems to be a regular question.

People in Barcelona eat earlier than in the south.

Breakfast is any time from 7 to 10. 'Elevenses' the 'merienda, is at about 10. This is when Andaluzs have their breakfast and the truck drivers, their 'carrajillos'.

Lunch time starts from 1pm to 1.30 in Barcelona on a working day, but more usually at 2 pm to 3 pm.

Dinner time starts at about 9 pm but locals go out to eat an hour or two later. I go to some restaurants when they open at 9 pm to avoid the rush but you will be eating alone until the locals all arrive at 10 pm.

I recommend booking and eating later to ensure that the kitchen is operation properly and everything is properly cooked. Pick a restaurant, book and then disappear for an hour or so and do the local bars.

I don't think that Madrid ever stops!

People in Spain usually eat a light breakfast (Donuts, pastries) before they go to work so between 7-8, they then stop working and have a mid morning snack (toast with oil and tomato or Butter and jam) about 10 (this snack usually involves a few Brandy's). They then have lunch/siesta between 2-5 (menu Del dia - 3 course meal) then have an afternoon snack (bread and cheese/meat) at 6-7 and they usually have their evening meal at 10.

    I hope this helps
