  1. Plants carry out photosynthesis whenever there is light energy provided. Even when its a cloudy day and the sun's intensity isn't as strong, plants still carry out photosynthesis but not as efficient. To answer your answer more clearly, whenever there is light energy present, a plant can carry out photosynthesis as long as it has water and Nitrogen in the soil. It doesn't matter if its night time and you place a light source over the plant.
