  1. You can start training at any age. Some are just incredibly gifted for such talent, long limbs, abundance of adrenaline, and proper exposure to the sports.

  2. i started my babies off at an age when they knew no fear.. they thought it was fun being dunked underwater eye's open mouth open laughing at me laughing with them.

at some age they start fearing stuff.. and i'd imagine that's a bad time for first exposure to water.

no i didnt have water around they could fearlessly crawl into and drown.. and they were never ever left unatended even if there was.

my kids are the most precious thing in my life.

  3. There is no certain age you should start swimming. You can be just as good as anyone if you work hard and keep bringing your times down. (also, you don't have to be like Michael Phelps to be a good swimmer!)

  4. Swimmers can start at any age. I'm never going to be an Olympic swimmer even though I've been swimming for at least 4 years, just because I haven't been training at that level.

  5. i actually think that 11-12 is a good time to start. I know alot of swimmers that started when they were younger and they just burnt out. They stopped trying and eventually got caught up to by the swimmers that started later because the later swimmers still enjoyed it.

  6. Well, obviously, the younger the better. But Michael Phelps started at an age of 11. Don't get me wrong. His practice and trainings were intense.

I think it would be good if swimmers started training at maybe the age of 8 - 10.

  7. Birth

  8. the normally start training in squads around 8-12 by 15- 16 they are normally on a national squad, i am 15 and i have just started training again after some personal matter but i hope to make the olympics some day

  9. Swimmers can start learning at any age, I teach infant classes as well as adult classes. As for training, our team begins when the children are 4-years-old and focuses on techinque until age 10. After age 10, the swimmers begin training for speed and technique as well as nutrition to complement. Some of the more naturally gifted swimmers will start speed work by the age of 8, it depends on the swimmer. Some of our more novice swimmers don't start speed work until 11 or 12.

Alot of being a good athlete has to do with natural gifts. Some people are built to be fast. Phelps has hyperextensive joints and some double-jointed tendencies which allow him a greater range of motion than those with normal joints. His coach took advantage of this gifts and really deve, oped him to the best of his ability. It probably also helps that Phelps LOVES swimming and has a really great supportive family.

As long as you love it, stick with it!
