When do they start?  It depends on which race you are referring to.  There's not just 1 race in the country.  You can check out your local race (if it's USLMRA sanctioned) at http://www.letsmow.com.

What's the fastest?  the FX class is the fastest of the USLMRA sanctioned classes.  It is basically an unlimited class, i which you can make major modifications to the engine, chassis, and driveline.
