  1. During residency, most students will decide if they want to specialize in a certain area of medicine or just become a general physician.


  2. Actually you sort of do choose your specialty in med school. You get to work in different environments during your residency, which helps you choose which specialty you think you would enjoy most. Alot of doctors choose their specialty during med school, and then when they graduate start the necessary schooling required for their specialty.

  3. In the US/Canada, there's a computerized and blinded algorithm known as "the match." In the winter of your senior year, you'll interview with residencies in which you're interested. You submit your "wish list" to the NRMP (National Residency Matching Program) in February, and get the "good news" on Match Day, the third Thursday in March. That gives you three whole months to finish medical school, take your exams, and move before you start to work 1 July.
