When you pay depends on the school.  If you drop a class and on financial aid most places suggest talking to that office first.  If it changes your enrollment status by dropping (you were full tie and by dropping you're part time) you may end up paying out of pocket.

Usually tuition is due the first week of the term.  If you withdraw within the first few days, you usually get your money back.  

There is no one rule for all schools, so you really should check with the Business Office (or the web site) of your particular school to be sure.
