Question:

When do you know when a baby p'let is hungry?

i have a 6wk old p'let and the owner told me he may want to be handfed if he is under stress etc.. so how do i know that i am supposed to handfeed him? Is it when he starts to beg?(what does that sound/look like) or if i notice he hasnt been eating his seeds and veggies but has been eating millet?

  1. That owner had no right giving you that baby that was too young to be taken from his parents if he wasnt fully weaned. Or, they should've given you instructions. He should be fed 4 times a day for a week, then cut down to 3 times a day. If he's eating millet thats a good sign. Is he getting any fluids in him? Although it looks as if he is eating, he's probably dropping a lot of it. Try offering some soft foods. Scrambled egg, wheat bread. Dry unsweetened cereal, rice, and pasta. Either call them back and ask questions, or call your vet for advice.

I totally agree with the other poster, that baby should not have been sold to you, it is entirely too early.  If you have no experience hand feeding you could actually do more harm than good.  He should be on a schedule as stated.  Please get either the breeder or a vet to guide you in hand feeding.
