  1. nope you cant put on the one you have that wil be more of a fine that driving with out its illeagal if the old ones are good and the owner didnt remove them use them.... the ones you have are not for that car which makes it illeagal and you can get a ticket for that as well as for not having them if you get caught so depends  id go for it and hope you dont have any problems with the ones that are in date

  2. The old plates must stay on the car until you register the car under your name with your plates , if you change the plates before hand the car is classed as being unregistered to which you will be fined if pulled over by the police.

  3. not necessarily , usually they give you new plats on new cars. but you can pout the old plats on the new car if you wan .or you pout new plats to the old car. you have to pay for.

  4. Leave the old plate one because if you get pulled over with a license plate that is registered to another car you're either going to be fined heavily or possibly be arrested. When you register the car in your name you will most likely not get a new plate unless you request one. They'll just transfer the registration to your name.

  5. depends on  your state. Some states give you a few days and allow you to transfer the plates to the new (used) car.

other states, you have to keep the car off the road til you get plates from DMV

  6. If you drive with your tags it is illegal. However most people do that. It is just easier, and just drive it home, and don't drive it again until you have it registered properly. And don't get caught. BE careful and drive like it is your dear old grandmas car and she is in there with you and will have a heart attack and die if something even seems like it is going to go  bad!

  7. Typically you don't want to drive the car until you have it registered under your name. The DMV does give you 5 days though as a grace period. So if you do drive it, keep the old plates. If you are pulled over, the old plates will show car is registered to the seller and then show the peace officer your purchase agreement, deed to the car, etc.

Otherwise using the new plates that may be unregistered or registered to a different car would put off warning signs to theft.
