When do you say "which" (e.g. movie, song etc) and when "what" (movie, song etc.) in English ?

  1. What is asking specifically what the movie is when there are no options to choose from. Which is when there are options (e.g. 3 movies) to choose from.


  2. When you are asking for a specific song or movie, they are pretty much interchangeable, although "which" is probably more grammatically correct.

  3. And we wonder why people who don't speak the language throw up their hands in frustration(plus a few well-chosen expletives!) In this case,"which" and "what" are interchangeable,wheres "who" and "whom" are not although people often confuse the two

  4. You say "which" when you are offering a set (or list) of things for the other person to pick one from. For instance: "Which dress do you like, the red one or the blue one?"

    You say "what", like when asking an open-ended quesiton, like: "What is that movie with John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson, you know, the one where they're both hitmen?"
