Seventeen people were killed in skiing accidents in Colorado this winter. Just a matter of time don't you think?

Or better yet, maybe the Government should get involved, tell us how to take care of our melons while skiing.

  1. It's not going to happen, Canada requires all youngsters to wear them, but not in the US.  I wear one most of the time, even teaching first day students on the carpets. It saved my life 2 years ago when I was battered by a snowboarder, however it will not necessarily prevent a concussion, just lessen one.  Too many times a helmet gives a false sense of security to the wearer.

  2. well i do wear a helmet but i know a winter park ski patroler at wp and most the people who died died of heart attack and hitting trees, even with a helmet they are still going to die

i do support helmets but they give people too much confidence and you can still die hitting your head with a helmet on

    look at asher crank

died at copper last year in train park with helmet

i do support but shouldnt be mandatory

  3. All I can say is that I will always wear a helmet, and so will anyone I bring with me, along with my future kids when I teach them to ski.

My helmet saved my life twice this year.  Once I aired off a cliff and landed in a different spot than expected, and I fell on a rock.  There's a wicked gash in the top of my helmet that goes from the front left to the very back in middle.  The other time I was distraced and caught a tree branch in the forehead.  It didnt clothesline me, I hit it straight on like it was a spear going into my head.  Ripped the helmet off and knocked me on my ***, but I was ok.

I dont even know how many possible concussions it saved me from too.

  4. Ski at your own risks.

If they tell us to wear helmets

    they are stupid.

They probably sucked at skiing anyway.

No one should tell us how to take care of ourselves.

Your life. My opinion. You choose.

  5. never, alot of people hate it (like me). itll happen as soon as people are required to wear helmits while riding bikes, rollerblading, ice skateing...

i deal with it and wear one while im in the park on my board but on skis or just on the mountain i dont bother.

people who want to be safe can be safe, me i feel better without it.

  6. several of those ski accidents were from suffocation in a tree well and I know of at least one that was an avalanche.

helmets are a good idea but they are expensive on top of all the gear inherently necessary.

I don't believe you will see a helmet requirement any time soon

Colorado had a record snow fall this year

    more snow more chance accidents

  7. It will happen when insurance companies insist on it.

I wear one all the time.  It is light, warm and comfortable.  It will not save me in every accident, but it will increase my prospects of survival in a greater range of accidents.
