  1. A majority of skiers will care when they can't find snow with lifts.  A majority of home owners will care when they can't buy insurance or afford to heat and cool their homes.  A majority of parents will care when they feel a threat to their children.  What do you think people will do when a majority care about global climate change?

  2. There are a lot of criticism in an inconvenient truth.

Lets look at some principles of science.  A theory has been formed that if you take co2 and increase the levels in the atmosphere you will have increased temperatures.  So a temperature reconstruction for the 20th century should show a slow increase in temperatures for the early part and a larger increase for the latter part.  But you do not get that.  You get a large increase in temperatures starting in 1910 when co2 levels were low and rising steadily until 1940.  Then when co2 levels started to shoot up they started to fall.  And the fell until 1975.  From 1975 until 1998 temperatures rose and they have have fallen slightly since then.

A growing body of “empirical” evidence suggests that solar activity, its amplifiers such as cosmic ray flux and the resulting feedbacks such as increased atmospheric water vapor and decreased albedo are responsible for as much as 95% of 20th century warming.  Critics of sun spot activity only measure the increases in solar energy and discount the theory.

A recent paper by Dr. Jan Veizer of Ottawa, Canada, based on dozens of studies and his own research of 40 years,  concluded that solar activity has been the “climate driver” for billions of years. While the climate can be affected by the many factors , it is the sun and its effects that have caused changes in climate for 4 billion years. Dr Veizer first set out to prove that CO2 was historically what caused changes in climate, but noted, “Personally, this last decade has been a trying period because of the years of internal struggle between what I wanted to believe and where the empirical record and its logic were leading me.”

His studies found there is a better correlation between sun spot activity and temperatures.  The temperatures started to rise in 1910 just as the sun started to increase its activity.  Where it does not correlate, El Ninos and La Ninas ( warming and colling of the oceans and the resulting change in land temperatures) have overridden the suns activity.

Jan Veizer's conclusions are also telling:

"I conclude this paper with the following comments. There is sufficient evidence to conclude that the IPCC and  other champions of greenhouse theory have miscalculated why the Earth is warming. On the other hand, it really does not matter because it will not be long before the fossil fuels that the greenhouse theorists say are the cause of global warming will run out.  It would be absolutely irresponsible for the people of the world to ignore this reality and do nothing while the debate continues."  That is the motive that is driving most environmentalists to support the theory.  More fuel efficient cars means less smog.  It also means less dependacy on foreign oil.  And they have a good point.

His quote is also telling:  "Personally, this last decade has been a trying period because of the years of internal struggle between what I wanted to believe and where the empirical record and its logic were leading me.”  His ideology did not want him to believe his conclusions, and I suspect that many scientists fall in that catergory,

But lets not panic and invoke measures that will hurt our economy.  We should implement alternative sources of energy when they become dependable and more economical.

    How can I deny hurricanes?

Read this report by Chris Landsea on Hurricanes and how biased the IPCC is.

On a world wide level Hurricanes have not risen.  If they had you would have heard the statistics by now.

"You can't argue that we are an insanely wasteful society dependent on a resouce that will infact, run out."  That is why Jan Veizer had a difficult accepting the facts that the sun and not co2 causes climate change.  I agree with you we should become more energy efficient.  Cars produce a lot of smog as well.

  3. When pigs fly. You people have been befuddled. You can't change, stop, or "fix" nature. A paranoid delusion is distracting your minds from way more important things.

  4. They do right now.

There's a lot less controversy about this is the real world than there is on Yahoo answers:

    http://www.worldpublicopinion.org/pipa/a...

And vastly less controversy in the scientific community than you might guess from the few skeptics talked about here:

    http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/fu... and:

"There's a better scientific consensus on this [climate change] than on any issue I know - except maybe Newton's second law of dynamics.  Global warming is almost a no-brainer at this point,You really can't find intelligent, quantitative arguments to make it go away."

    Jerry Mahlman, NOAA

Even conservatives may finally start to accept it  now that two undeniably conservative politicians have:

"I agree with you (Gore) that the debate over climate change is over."

    Rep. Dennis Hastert, Republican, Illinois

"Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich challenged fellow conservatives Tuesday to stop resisting scientific evidence of global warming"

  5. wen everything is over ....................................

and we cant get any help  -------------- at tht time all the people in the world will rush on the topic " GLOBAL WARMING "

IT IS AN inconvinient truth ............. but v cant help since itzz a happening ......................................

  6. after its too late :-/

  7. when food prices hit the roof and everything that needs water becomes very expensive ,and that includes beer ,

then there will be tears all round

dont underestimate the extent of subtle propaganda that plays the religious field.

far too many people wish it not to be true so convince themselves that God is handling things.

the science is confusing people ,numbers percentages, chemistry etc.

better go in the field and check out reality,

look what is happening to agriculture

the things happening to plants and animals ,that is real .

The mass exstinction going on apart from over fishing ,hunting and deforestation(loss of habitat)

Abnormal floods, heatwaves ,coldspells killing people .

more coverage should be about that ,not the theories people can pull apart with counter theories

  8. Do some homework on what they call the "hockey stick" This refers to the temperature chart in Al Gore's video which was doctored to delete the Medieval warm period. Average global temperature was warmer in the year 1000 than it is now and that data was distorted to comply with Al Gore's dooms day scenario. An Inconvenient Truth may be disturbing but it isn't all that true.

  9. Do not be too discouraged. This site has a lot of very vocal naysayers but the majority of people care about global warming right now. Global warming is a funny type of crisis though, because it the cause and the effect are so separated in both time and space that there will always be a hard core of deniers. Even when their feet are getting wet.

The article below indicates that 85% of people believe that it is probably happening now and 49% think it is very or extremely important. 85% think it is a serious problem for the future. That indicates to me that a majority care about it right now.

    UPDATE:

Fortunately most people are not as dumb as the naysayers think they are. They see through the Exxon financed lies.
