Question:

When do you think he will propose?

My bf and I just celebrated our 4 year anniversary a few weeks ago but we are not engaged yet. I know that he needed to achieve certain goals first and has met at least one of them. He was finally granted his Green Card in early August but I know he has a small credit debt he is paying off (less than $4,000). I'm just wondering if he might ask me soon.

We talk about getting married all the time but I know he doesn't feel ready. I honestly wouldn't care about having to wait to have a wedding if we could at least be engaged so we can start focusing on the next step. What do you all think about this?

  1. When your a rich powerful woman

  2. If you don't think you or he is ready for marriage, then in my opinion you are not ready to get engaged.  I personally don't think that you should ask (or accept) someone's hand in marriage until you are actually ready to get married (excluding a financial wait to save for a wedding).

A marriage proposal expresses a persons readiness and willingness to get married, at that time.  it's not a promise to one day think about getting married.

If he says he isn't ready for marriage, he probably won't propose marriage to you until he is.

  3. First of all, the golden rule of getting engaged is "He won't buy the cow if he is getting the milk for free." My boyfriend proposed after 7 months!

We've been married 5 years now.

But I had a friend who was following that approach and her boyfriend still didn't propose for about 4 years! He was from Slovenia or something and I think it was a cultural thing that he be financially secure before asking a woman to marry. So after he got a really good job, he proposed. So that may just be something you have to consider since he is not from this country. He may have more things on his mind than the fact that you're not getting any younger!

If you want to nudge him in the right direction, it always seems like in books and movies that when the girl does something drastic, the guy realizes he needs to make things official. Like if you were to take a job in Spain or something, I don't know.

  4. NEVER!!

  5. Pretty soon.

  6. Girl, he is never going to ask you.  I'm sorry to break the news.  But I am just trying to save you from wasting more time.  He will always have excuses.

  7. well im guessing when he has payed off the dept cuz wedding rings and engagment rings and the wedding itself is pretty expensive. if i were u i would save up some money before he asks you to marry u.

  8. well, if he's got certain goals to achieve, then he'll probably wait until he's met all of them, not just one of them. That's a good thing, believe me, that way you'll both have the time that you need to get ready for something as big as that and he'll be able to afford starting a family.

Just be patient and he'll be proposing before you know it.

  9. Let me check my crystal ball.

It says that he will not be asking you soon at all, maybe never.

By the way, $4000 is not a SMALL credit debt.

  10. All guys get a little fearful of marriage. Its not that we dont want it- but its a big deal for us. I think when hes ready he will do it.

  11. He sounds a sensible man and you are lucky to be with someone like that.

He obviously has things in hand as he has asked for your ring size, if it were me I would be a bit impatient and jump up and down until he told me when I was getting my ring.

If you can contain yourself then I guess you will just have to wait until he tells you the time is right.

    Good luck.
