Yesterday, I was assaulted and robbed, and the police came up for more information, I gave him the best info I could.

Also, once, they catch, we go to court, could I receive money for physical and emotional damage?

  1. In Alberta, you can apply to the Victim's of Crime fund through your local police department's Victim Services unit.  I would assume that various other provinces have similar such programs.

  2. get a cell phone with camera, keep it handy. snap a shot of the perp when you can, if you see him again. etc. most assaults and robberies happen within a few blocks of both the victim and perpetrators residence.

I am sorry this happened to you. Please don't let this one incident scar you into hiding for life.

If he is a robber, he has no money to compensate you. Although there may be some victim services in your state or county.

If you remember things about it, write it down and take it to court with you, or to the officers who are investigating it.

  3. You cannot receive money in criminal court, you would have to civilly sue the person for that.

The police will catch the suspect when they know who it is and they find them!

  4. Realistically, unless you know your attacker, or somehow the event was recorded, or some witness got reliable identification like a valid car tag number, the likelihood of the cops catching a suspect are between hair-slim and none.  Sorry.  They should have told you when they took your statement.

You might get lucky and they catch him in the act with someone else, and they might think to call you to pick him out of a line-up, but otherwise, do not devote a lot of worry to this.  Although he robbed you, and it seemed very personal to you, it was not personal to the robber in anyway.  You were just the wildebeest he cut out of the herd.  You were just prey.  I'm not sharing this to be offensive either.  I'm truly sad this happened to you.  I hope I can help you to get beyond it some.  Do some research on what you can do to mark yourself as less of a target in the future.  Happy to make suggestions if you like.

Oh, and under no circumstances should you try to turn "Miss Marple" and solve this crime on your own.  If you see your attacker on the street in the future, find a crowded place and blend in quick.  He beat you once, next time he will likely do worse to keep from getting caught.

  5. If the police didn't catch them that same day, they ain't gonna catch 'em.  Chalk it up to a lesson learned and start carrying a handgun.  Check the laws in your state first though.

And, remember the golden words that you will want to use whether your life was threatened or not:  "_______, I feared for my life!"  (In the blank spot, fill in "officer," "judge" or "ladies and gentleman of the jury.")

  6. Do you ever have any enemies?  Anything strange about your life?

Anyone with the intention on having a strong grudge on you, who could feel like hurting you or taking whatever from you?  Any threats?

Did you happen to know the guy?

Can you describe him for me?

All I want to do is to help you!  Police want to help you as well.

They're still trying their best to hunt this guy down.

Please email me if you have anything to say about this.  My user allows email.

  7. Sorry that happen to you,
