The sun is about 4.5 billion years old and it is estimated to still possess a 5-billion year supply of hydrogen (hydrogen is the fuel that drives nuclear fusion on the sun). Therefore, it is predicted that our sun will die in approximately 5 billion years.

Therefore the earth will die in 5 billion years.

really though 2012 seems to be the magic number.

1. the mayan calender supposedly ends on that date and earth magnetic fields fails or something.

2. Einstein said when bees go extinct then man will follow 4 years after. well they went in 2008

3. the Iraq war will come to some kind of head about then and we'll almost surely be at war with Iran and maybe even others by then.

4. Global warming and pollution will certainly be 20 times worse by then cause no one cares about solving the problem or even making half an attempt

so yeah, my money's on 2012

Obviously no one knows that.  But as it stands right now, we're doing fine.  People are just buying into what radical politicians and the alarmist media are telling them.  There isn't much going on now that hasn't occurred countless times in the past. The world is doing just fine.

Billions of years.  The Earth will be around much longer than humans.  In terms of the Earths survival, life will be present in one form or another until the Sun dies.  The Earth shouldnt be worried, but humans should be.

A better question, a more relevant question, is when will WE come to an end.  From the way things are going, I think there's an excellent chance that we human beings may kill ourselves off in a relatively short time, maybe a century or two.  That would be a shame, but, as the saying goes, it would not be the end of the world.  The world will still be here, there will still be forests and animals and deserts and mountains and rivers and all that.  In fact the earth might be better off!

If we can figure out how to get along with one another in the age of WMD, then we have a good chance of being around for at least many more millennia.
