  1. It won't hurt to see a Democrat  as president.  Maybe then there will be a  change and the embargo lifted. That may be next year.

  2. I don't know when that would happen but as a US citizen, you still can get into Cuba. But you may need to go through different routes.

If you have family there, it is possible for you to go and visit.

And, there are flights that do go from US to Cuba (Havana) all the time.

When in Cuba, make sure you only use CAD or Euros to exchange to CUC. US money is not accepted and you will be charged about 10% for exchange. So since you are US citizen, change your US funds to CAD before entering Cuba. Don't bring back any receipts from Cuba (don't leave a paper trail) and be smart about what you buy. There are certain things US citizens can and cannot purchase.

Look at the links below and see the routes and avenues you can take. You can enter as well through Mexico or Canada and just make sure that they don't stamp your passport in Cuba. They never do but make sure you tell them not to so that when you re-enter the States, it's not on your passport.

There are ways (and legally). You don't necessarily have to wait until things completely change. Hope you can go soon and when you do, have a wonderful time.

  3. You still can go (illegal) to Cuba via Cancun , Toronto etc.

I think that even at the end of the embargo and with a change of the Cuban leadership ( Fidel, Raul) things will not change quickly. I don't expect Cuba to open the frontiers for a massive

US tourist invasion. Most people are fixated on both Castro brothers. A new political

generation is ready Carlos Lage, Filippe Rocque Perez etc. and they can not assure a fast change due to the many internal problems.

    (food supply, transport, housing, etc)

In the best case I see a lifting of the embargo and a limited and restricted access of US tourists to Cuba.

  4. Some US citizens fly to Grand Cayman and take trips to Cuba from there.  There are several airlines offering travel to Cuba from Grand Cayman.

  5. Certainly, the US government is unlikely to do anything whilst Fidel is still president.

Whether they might talk to Raul - we shall have to wait and see.
