  2. If you are getting a big screen, you definitely want the 1080p. While both formats have the same resolution, the 1080i is not going to look any better than a 720p. 1080i and 720p are essentially the same thing and you will not be able to tell them apart.

The "i" stands for interlaced and the "p" stands for progressive. The difference being that "interlaced" means you are seeing half of the lines of resolution every frame and "progressive" meaning you are seeing all lines of resolution during every frame and at all times. Every time the picture refreshes on your TV, you will see all lines of resolution on the 1080p and only half of them on the 1080i. 1080i is considered identical to 720p because even though 720p only has about 720 lines of resolution, you see all of them every frame like you would in the 1080p.

Most TV's that are technically 1080i are labelled as 720p for this reason and when you look in stores, you hardly will ever see any 1080i TV's for sale.

All in all, you want a 1080P and nothing less if you are buying a 50" and above. If you are buying under 50", you probably will not notice the difference that the 1080p makes and would be fine buying a 720p.

    Hope this helps

  3. 1080i is what you want to keep on for normal tv viewing.

1080p would be used for watching sports. 1080p is for fast-paced action and gives you the best picture for a football game.
