I was acceleating slowly to 55 mph from 40 mph because the sign was hundred feet in front of me. I saw the cop, but I didn't think I was doing anything wrong. I go a ticket for going in 50 in a 40 zone. The cop said that I could not accelerate until after the sign! Every where I read say to obey the "posted" speed limit. it was posted! Is this true? I live in michigan

  1. Yes unfortiantly its true.

  2. yeah the limit doesn't apply until you actually pass it... i got the same thing 40 in a 25... pulled over 100 ft from sign

  3. I think that will be totally up to the cop, because it can go the other way as well. When comming up to a school zone you would get a ticket if you weren't down to 15 before the sign, and you would get a ticket if you were climbing back up to 45 before exiting the school zone. In other words, if a cop is in a bad mood, you'll get a ticket on that matter whatever you do, so use your best judgment.

  4. you can not speed up untill you pass the sign

  5. He's right, He's kinda of an anal jerk for doing it but he is legally right.
