Classic and antique are loosely used terms.

The problem with a class 8 vehicle is that those classifications do not apply. Those classifications only apply to vehicles that can be used privately. The maximum GVWR for a private vehicle is 48000lbs.

Now, the key is the 48000lbs. If you want to make just the tractor a classic and the GVW is 48 or less then technically you'd just reregister the vehicle as private under classic and never pull a trailer with it.

The time frame is 15 yrs for classic, and 25 yrs for antique.
