Question:

When does an eye prescription normally stabilize?

I was eager to have laser eye surgery this year, but I found out that my prescription is not yet stable. I'm 28, and it has changed a bit in the last year. Is this normal? I know that prescriptions normal become stable during the 20's, but does this extend to late 20's? Any further input is much appreciated!

  1. I believe that for laser surgery there is a time period set for your eyes to be stable before surgery...like 2-3 months.  Ask the eye doctor what he/she recommends for you and this surgery.

  2. Unfortunately, it is an individual thing. I am 44 and my eyes have changed a lot over  the years and never really stopped for a long time. I went once for about 6 or 7 years with my rx not changing and then it started up again. So, with some people it is unpredictable and heredity rules! SIGH. Good luck to you!
