I'm still breastfeeding my first, but very sporadically. He only breastfeed maybe once a week, probably less. Well i breastfed him yesterday and I was just curious to see how much milk i was still making. So i squeezed my nipple to see if it would shoot out like it did when i breastfed him frequently. Well if definitely didn't squirt out. very little came out and it didn't look how my breast milk did before. I know your milk changes, but it kind of looked like it might be switching back to colostrum because it was tinted yellow and kinda looked like it had a streak of clear in it. So is that what it probably is? I'm not sure when that switch happens.

  1. Breast-Milk DOES NOT change BACK to colostrum...your milk is simply drying up and becoming weak since you only B/F once a week.

  2. your body makes as much milk as your baby needs so if you are only feeding as little as once a week then you will only have very little milk and could even stop making milk. You only produce colostrum during the last few months of pregnancy and the first few days following delivery.  Your milk doesnt change back to colostrum, well not unless you are heavily pregnant with another baby!  All breast milk consists of a watery, thirst quenching part that comes first, when the baby starts to suckle, followed by the calorie laiden milk that helps support growth.  If your feeding your son as little as once weekly then your body wont be making much milk and he is probably taking the breast more for comfort than nourishment.

  3. your milk wont change back to colostrum.

the reason it didnt squirt out is your not feeding enough.  the more you feed the more milk you will make.
