When does brisingr 'really' come out?

In the U.S, the release date that i'm aware of is sept. 20. Now my friend works in barnes & noble, and told me that they already have the shipments of it in back. Not only that, he told me he goes and reads it! He's not always well informed, but he was saying something about getting it for me on the 1st of september, any possibility here?

The book REALLY comes out on September 20th.  With the Harry Potter books, the retailers had to sign contracts that said they would not sell the books before the official date and the consequences for retailers who did so were pretty stiff.

So if B&N has a contract with the publishers that says they will not sell or release any copies of "Brisingr" until Sept. 20, your friend will lose his job if he sells you an early copy.  It would be a pretty crappy friend who would let someone else get fired just because they wanted to read a book ahead of the release date.

It does get released on September 20, 2008, at midnight. So i dont think you could get it on the first.

Maybe he'll sneak you a copy, or take pics of each page and post it on the net, like they did with harry potter. but you should wait for it till the 20, like everyone else.
