I was just wondering, because I don't want to start paying in the middle of the period and pay extra. We have Allstate.

  1. It will say in your policy which you sign. when the coverage starts and when it stops. i should also appear on your proof of coverage papers you keep in the auto. (the one the police ask for.)

Now  IF your policy is actually sold by the month and IF  the first month is only a partial month it is prorated out so that you pay only for the part of the month you use.

bear in mind however that policies are usually sold by the year or half year not actually by the month. the insurance company just arranges a monthly payment plan on your yearly policy. so in the long run you end up paying for what you get.

If your not sure how your policy is sold or how your payment plan works speak to your agent. they're supposed to have explained it already

  2. It starts the time you fill out the application, and and over the money, assuming that the agent "binds" coverage.  The agent will TELL you when it starts.

  3. Its starts from when you take it out. If you ring them and undertake a policy to cover yourself, then they usually give you a short period to pay it, but it starts from when you contacted them and advised them to sign you up for cover.

  4. Read your policy declarations page.  It states the coverage period.
