I recently moved out of the house I was renting. I lived there for 4years. The carpet is at least 5 years old. My landlord found a small stain and said he is going to replace the carpet and now will only give me a little less the half of my security deposit.

  1. The old landlord keeping the security deposit trick.  The only thing you can do is stand in his face and demand that he give you your money back.  It belongs to you.  Changing the carpet isn't your fault.  He'll get away with it if you let him.

  2. Very little equipment is required to maintain a carpet well. To maintain condition of carpet; a good vacuum cleaner is essential like: carpet shampoo, dry cleaning fluid and clean absorbent cloths or paper tissues to remove spills.

Regular cleaning will extend the life of your carpet and maintain its good appearance.

Vacuum clean regularly and thoroughly to remove gritty dirt that can damage the fibres.

Deal with spillages as soon as possible, preferably the moment they occur.

Your Landlord was trying to get something out of your pocket.

  3. Its not value but condition.  If the carpet cannot be cleaned then you are responsible.
