Am I right to assume that cellular respiration is happening constantly and that for everything to function, cellular respiration must take place? Could someone please help me out with understanding this?

  1. Keep in mind that cellular respiration is an AEROBIC process, which means that oxygen must be present.  Otherwise, the process of fermentation will begin.  So, yes, it is a constant process as long as oxygen is present.
