I mean right now, 2 GB is kinda standard for a computer which has amongst other things a 320GB hard drive. Can't you self install like 10 GB RAM? Would that make your computer like a superhuman amongst computers? :)

  1. Typically, the motherboard of your system has a RAM limit.  You can check with the manufacturer to find out just what that RAM limit is.  If the RAM limit on your motherboard is, say (just for example) 4GB, and you install two 4GB RAM sticks for a total of 8GB RAM, the motherboard will likely only recognize 4GB, and that will be what shows under System Properties.  In essence, then, the other 4 is a waste.

  2. Nope at the moment most of it would never be used.

Even the most demanding games like Crysis don't use that much memory.

  3. Erm, it would make it very good, but the performance of the computer doesn't depend on how much RAM you have, it depends on the CPU, the GPU, the mobo, etc, etc, a 32-bit OS only supports 3.2GB of RAM, If you have a 64-bit OS then you can have up to 16 EB of RAM. Having 10 GB of RAM on a computer would not make it a "superhuman amongst computers". because, though the RAM is very important and there are many advantages to having 10GB of RAM the computer would still need a very fast CPU and GPU in order to be extremely powerful.

  4. As the fellow beoe me stated, there is usually a motherboard limit, though these days the limit is 4 gigs if tou have the right o/s installed.

Win 64, either xp or vista will utilise up to 8 gigs of ram, and the server os will see and use twice that, but the motherboard still musyt be able to see all of it first, and if it is locked in at2 or 3 gigs, that is all you will be able to use!

  5. No, you can't. Your mother board limits how high you can go. Desk tops offer more memory than a lap top. And you only need so much memory for private use. You ain't NASA !
