Sony makes some pretty poor recievers (do a search on any audio forum), for the money you have far better options than Sony.  Do some research on other brands like Denon, Onkyo, Pioneer and Yamaha before just settling on a Sony brand.  Granted their ES line is better than the regular Sony's but for the money you can get far better performance from the other brands I've mentioned.
