As @conley39 has noted, sales started already in Milan. There is a tendency in the last years to make them last even more than August, so you could find some shops having sales rates also in the beginning of September :-)

The sales have already started here in Italy. The Italian holiday period is in August, so the sales run through most of the month of July.
