School generally starts in August or September for most american schools.

Holidays depend on the school which you attend. If its religiously affiliated then it might only have those holidays off but most regular schools have a break In november for thanks giving, a break in december for christmas, and random national holidays on certain fridays. (President's day, Easter, etc)

In some communities, it's started already.  In the USA, such decisions are made by each district, there are over 25,000 school districts in the USA.

Most will start before Labor Day, first Monday in September.

Most are out by Memorial Day, last Monday in May.

Holidays are Thanksgiving in November, Christmas in December, and some national holidays like President's Day, Martin L. King Day, and Spring Break (for Easter).
