I am going to New York in the first week of December and my son has never seen snow yet so I was wondering if there is good chance of snow during that time. Exact time is December 8 thru the 15th.

  1. yes that is a good time for snow. i am from michigan. sometimes we get some snow before october is over. new york starts getting snow usually during the end of october or middle novermber through middle to late march.

  2. Slim chance.  It really doesn't snow that much in NYC and if it does, it's usually in February.

  3. there is a VERY good chance that he will see snow. it is almost guaranteed, i hope he likes it :) im not a fan of it.

  4. It really varies from year to year.

Some years NYC gets pounded with snowfall, other years we hardly get any.  We seem to be in a snowless pattern right now.. that  doesnt mean you wont get it that time of year, but there is a good chance you wont see any either.

First snowfall in an average year does occur in last nov or early december. That doesnt mean it will stick though.

  6. As you can tell from the above responses, it's very difficult to predict when it will snow in New York.  That week in December is a bit early for snow, but it is certainly possible.  I'd say the chances were about 20% that you'll see some snow while you're in town.  Of course the snow may just be flurries that don't stick, or a light dusting...

  7. Great chance!

  8. It is possible but unlikely.  NYC does not get snow very often.  The big storms usually come in Jan or Feb.  That does not mean that it is impossible to get a big storm in December, but it will more likely be in the 40s or 50s and sunny.

  9. I am a native New Yorker.  Living here all my life, I have rarely seen it snow around this time.  Even in '94 when we where hit with 18 snow storms, it didn't start until after Christmas.  Last year we only had snow twice and there wasn't much accumulation.  What was on the ground melted into slush because it rained immediately after.  You may luck out with a flurry or two, but I wouldn't count on anything more than that.  One of the only places that you are guaranteed snow that time of the year, is Vermont.  Besides that, enjoy New York and have fun.  You choose a great time to go, Manhattan has so much going on around this time of the year.

  10. Not sure. It depends. It might, so just pray that it will! To tell the truth, i don't remember when it snowed last year, but it wasn't that much. I actually wish there was more!
