  1. Assuming your FAFSA is complete at your college, the college can disburse your aid anytime from 10 days prior to the first day of classes to 1/2 way through the semester.  As this varies from college to college your best bet is to contact the aid office and ask them when your aid will be disbursed.

  2. Two or three weeks after the semester begins.

The lenders don't disburse financial aid funds until the add/drop period has ended, because that's when your school will "certify" to the lender that you are registered, and they'll also be able to notify the lenders about your "cost of attendance."

If the lenders didn't wait for that step, they'd have to deal with the huge mess of students who added more classes, dropped classes, or withdrew all together.

Most schools have a separate payment deadline for students who have been awarded financial aid. You won't have to pay off your student account until your aid arrives.

I hope that helped - good luck!

  3. It depends on how soon you completed the fafsa and sent all the paperwork back to your school.  Usually a few weeks after school starts.
