  1. Hi Dianna!

First a couple of internet tips.

    1) Don't use your real name for you e-mail address!  You really need to change that. The web has lots of nasty people on it, and kids your age, especially girls, are the prime victims of these folks. You should NEVER have personally identifiable information on the net!!!  Make up a fake name and don't EVER agree to meet someone "in real life" that you met over the net. (BTW be warned once you post something on the web, it stays there FOR EVER).

    2) I assume you mean Kerrville Texas, USA.  This is the WORLD WIDE WEB so lots of people from all over the world communicate here. Most are Americans, but there are lots of folks from other countries, Syria, China, Australia, New Zeeland, France, England, etc.  If you want an answer to your questions, you need to be a bit more specific.

    3) This form is about Pool and Snooker... as in the game you play on a pool table, not the sort of pool you swim in.

    4) Here is your answer.  I found it by going to GOOGLE and looking for the Kerrville Texas City webpage (the City Department of Parks and Recreation runs the pools).  Then on their website I searched for "Swiming".

    5) Have a fun and save weekend!

Have you ever thought about what the City of Kerrville has to offer for the summer from a child’s perspective?  Say a twelve-year-old kid?  I imagine the thought process might be something like this…

Well…it is almost that time of year again.  What am I gonna do now?  Hmmmm…I know!  I should see what is going on with Parks and Recreation.  They generally have something fun to do!

I like to swim and the pools should be opening soon.  Oh here it is…the Olympic Pool at Singing Wind Park will open on Memorial Weekend Saturday and Sunday.  And the hours are going to be 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. both days.  That should be fun.  I see here that the price is only $2.00 for ALL AGES.  I think I can scrape that much out of the cushions of the couch…I also know that anyone that doesn’t want to swim but wants to watch their kids only pays $1.00.  And little brother is under 3 years old so he gets in FREE!  Wow!  What a deal, I should tell Mom about this Olympic Pool thing.

That takes care of Memorial Weekend.  I see here that the pool will be closed during the week of May 28 to June 1 because school is still in session.  But hey, it opens for the WHOLE summer on Saturday, June 2, and is open everyday from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. except Fridays.  I guess they do have to clean the pool every week.

There is also Martin Pool on Paschal Street that is going to open for the summer on Sunday, June 3rd.  We should try going there also because that pool fee is only $1.00 per person ALL AGES!  Hey…that pool is right across from Doyle Community Center!  It’s open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. and then on Sundays 3:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Okay that takes care of some of the days.  There seems to be more to do than just swimming.  How about the Open Gym Program at the Tivy High School athletic facility on Loop 534?  That starts Monday, June 11.  There is always plenty of my friends there, playing basketball, volleyball and lifting weights.  So when I’m not at the pool, I can play ball from 2:30 until 6:30 in the afternoon Mondays through Thursdays.  That’s enough to keep me busy for 6 weeks.  And since I’m over 10 years old, Mom can drop me off at the gym.  Too bad for those kids 10 years old and under, they have to have their mom or dad with them!  But you know, that free program co-sponsored by Kerrville ISD is going on seven years now.  Everyone must be having a good time for it to be going that long!!

I almost forgot about the annual Tranquility Island Kid’s Fishing Derby on Saturday, June 9th.  I’ll gather up my family and we can go fishing in the Guadalupe River down in Louise Hays Park.  They always have really cool door prizes of fishing supplies and prizes for the smallest fish caught, the longest fish caught and the biggest fish caught.  Oh yeah, they also have a heavy stringer category for the family entry.  Better get my rod and reel fixed up and get Dad to buy some worms.  I’m sure the fish in the Guadalupe River like worms!

Seems like the Bike Rodeo is always following close behind the Fishing Derby.  Let me look further.  HERE IT IS!  That Bike Rodeo is so much FUN!  I see here it is going to be Saturday, June 16.  Looks like the Hill Country Bicycle Works is going to sponsor the rodeo again.  They always have some really cool door prizes at the Bike Rodeo, too.  Let’s see, I have won a reflector, a tire pump, and a helmet.  I wear that helmet every time I ride my bike…

While I ride my bike all summer, I can train for the 12th Annual Kid’s Triathlon that’s gonna be Saturday, August 18.  Since it will be held at Singing Wind Park, I can train in the Olympic Pool and run around the softball field just below the pool.  Just like in the triathlon.

Speaking of training and running, Kerrville Parks and Recreation will be holding a Regional Track and Field meet on Friday, July 6, at Antler Stadium.  Since this is going to be a Texas Amateur Athletic Federation event there is going to be kids from all over the Region…hmmmm…Burnet, Cedar Park, Round Rock, New Braunfels, and oh my goodness…Boerne!!  Better start training hard for that!

I’ll bet Scott Schreiner Golf Course will be hosting several different programs for kids again this summer.  Dad needs to call 257-4982 for additional information on all the youth golf activities.  And he can call the H.E.B. Tennis Center (896-7955) for tennis lessons this summer, too.  Last year I had a great time improving my golf and tennis skills.

You know, I think I’ll have Mom ring up the Kerrville Parks and Recreation Department for information on all this neat stuff, including swimming lessons for little brother.  I bet there will be additional fun things added to the list, too!  Let’s see…Mom can call 792-8387 or 792-8386 to get information for my summer schedule.

Yep, that is what she should do…
