When does the olympics begin? why is china and germany already playing?

i heard olymics are gunu start in august but like all these countries and already going aginst other countries! whats up with that? like dirk nowitski and yao ming is playing...

The Olympics begin August 8. The reason the basketball teams are already playing is they have to qualify. Only 12 teams get to actually play in the Olympics. For more specific information about how the teams are selected check out this link:
