  2. WHEN THEY ARE IN MAYBE 6 MONTHS MAYBE YOUNGER

  3. Usually after 9-12 months for the first one then every six months after that.

  4. Good question but I'm afraid only your dog knows the answer. Most dogs come into their first heat between 6 months and a year of age. Smaller breeds of dogs tend to come into heat earlier than large breeds, I have seen some big dogs not come into heat until almost 2 years of age. Usually the first thing you will notice is a swollen v***a and a bloody vaginal discharge that last 7-9 days. That is followed by 7-9 days of a very swollen v***a but not much discharge and is usually the time the dog is fertile and ovulating, Finally. it takes another 7-9 days for the dog to go completely out of heat.

  5. Dogs don't have periods, but go into heat or season.  Females can go into heat as early as 6 months to a year, or even longer in some cases, depending on the breed.

Each heat cycle lasts for approximately 21 days about twice a year and is divided into 3 parts.

The first part lasts anywhere from 3-14 days during which a bloody discharge and swelling of the vaginal area are usually seen.

Next the dog will become receptive to being bred and actively may seek out a male dog. This is the time when she can become pregnant. The discharge may change color at this time and become lighter.

Finally, the discharge will become clearer, the vaginal swelling will diminish and the dog will no longer allow herself to be bred.

She may hate other dogs now, but once her hormones kick in, I'm sure that is going to change, so you will need watch her carefully to avoid unwanted breeding and subsequent puppies.

With every heat cycle that your female goes through, it will increase her chance of several types of cancer. Spaying her is the healthier option.

  11. Female dogs do not have periods, they go into heat. A period is a female human body's way of expelling an unfertilized egg from the body. Heat in a dog is the time in which a dog is ovulating and can become pregnant. A female dog generally will have her first heat at 6 months or older. After that she will go into heat twice a year for approximately 3 weeks.

  12. Females usually have their first heat anywhere between 6 months to a year old. It lasts about 3 weeks, then comes again every 6 months.
