And does this include all public places or only restaurants? Are there any places in Paris that have begun to ban smoking?

  1. Smoking ban in public places is already in place, except for restaurants, cafes, tobacco sellers who got a reprieve until 1st jan 08.

So, hold your breath still for seven months for those places, everywhere else is smoke free.

  2. Since 1st february 07, smoking is banned in public places

(there was a former law, but the new one is applied to work places, hall reception and stuff like that)

But there are still exceptions like pubs, bars, night-club and casinos.

Concerning restaurants you may found restaurants split in allowed and non-allowed smoking parts.

On january 1st 2008 the law will be extended to these places (pubs, bars, night-clubs, casinos, restaurants)

But it's always free to smoke in the street, in parks, on restaurants sundecks (it depends), in your car and at home.

    .

Note that in France, the law is the same in all the country.
