When does this become illegal?

I'm 17 and a senior, my girlfriend is a year and a half younger, @ 16, and a junior. I turn 18 in 2 weeks, so that leaves her at 16. If i kiss her will i go to jail for pedophilia? I dont think that's what the law is there for, more to protect from the 43 year olds with 8 year olds, but on the same token, i don't want to blow my future.

it don't matter. cops don't care if you are only a few years older than your girlfriend. you can stay with her. I had a 20 year old bf when i was 16 years old..

pedophilia is a mental illness diagnosis, not a crime.

the crime you are asking about is statutory rape, and details vary by state. I am sure 10 seconds with google will get you the details where you live.

It depends on the parents. Usually parents are the ones who file charges like this one. You should discuss it with them and see what they say. If they dislike you you probably shouldn't do anything that would cause them to involve the police. As far as i know it becomes illegal for a minor to be involved with anyone over the age of eighteen.

it depends in what state you're in... i think if you're in texas its a no.

i strongly suggest you do 2 things:

1. google the law in your state for STATUTORY RAPE.... it sounds so normal to be 18 and date someone that is 16 but jail ain't fun

2. talk to her parents about this... they will respect you a whole lot.

and................ avoid s*x. srsly jail is no fun

It depends on what state your in.  If you live in TX, then she'd be off limits to you.  If you live in NJ, she's perfectly legal already.  Some states also mention parental consent in the law...basically, if her parents know about and approve of the relationship, then it's not illegal...but it really does vary a lot by state.  Other states say that you have to be within two years of each other if one partner is underage.

Try looking up "age of consent" and your state.

Oh, and usually for someone to get in trouble for statutory rape, there has to be some kind of issue, usually that the underage partner's parents call the police, or that the underage partner gets pregnant and the hospital makes a fuss.

It all depends on the state that you live in.  Most states have the laws written to cover cases like yours and you'll be okay.  You should be fine with kissing her.
