  1. It never falls in the same year!

The 1st always falls after the 31st of December, which is the LAST day of the Old Year.  January 1st is ALWAYS the FIRST day of the NEW YEAR.

  2. Is this a joke?????  Christmas day and New Year's day will NEVER fall in the same year.  That is why it is called new YEAR's day!

  3. When you put new years day 1st and xmas 2nd

    e.g. 1/1/08 & 25/12/08

They are both within the same year

The answer to the question is: each year

  4. Every year.

edit:  This is a good one to trip up people.  Of course, they always fall in the same year!  Jan. 1, 2008 and Dec.25, 2008 are in the same year, aren't they?  Think in terms of the entire year, not just the week after Christmas and before New Years Day.  I'll give you a star for confusing folks!

  5. They are exactly seven days apart so New Year's Day occurs a week after Christmas. However, it's the Christmas of the preceding year and New Year's Day of the next that fall one week apart. New Year's Day and Christmas never fall on the same days in the same year.
