my boyfriend and i are booking a vacation to go on in a few weeks. we have MOST of the money saved up but we are only a few hundred short. We want to have all the money in our account before we book it but it's getting really close to the date we want to go. If we book it without the money in the account until right before we go does it matter? Do thye charge you when you check in or when you book it??

  2. I am sure some hotels do it differently, but all the hotels that I have been to charge your credit card after you check out. Just in case there are other charges that need to be added, (minibar, room service, etc.) They just need it ahead of time to make sure you can pay or in case anything happens.

And of course you can always ask the hotel you are staying at just to make sure. I am sure you wouldn't be the first to ask.

  3. They charge it every night/morning that you stay. But be careful, they usually put a hold on the card for expenses ( long distance, minibar) when you check in - over and above what the cost of the room charge is.

  4. If you book you hotel room through hotels.com or any of the other sites, they charge your card at the time of booking.  If you cancel your hotel , you need to read the fine print and rules of cancellation for each site because many of the site charge for a cancellation . Also, the hotel may also charge you a cancellation fee. Check at the hotel's website.
