When doing a load of laundry when do I put the fabric softener in?

My wife wanted me to do laundry today but she uses fabric softener and I'm not sure when to put in it I've done laundry before when I lived at my mom's but we never used fabric softener do I put it in when I put the laundry detergent in or do I wait till later how is this done correctly? The fabric softener type is liquid downey by the way.

There should be a cup in the washer for you to pour the fabric softener , if not it goes in before the rinse cycle.

Get yourself one of those little Downey Balls...All you have do is pour the fabric softener up to the line.... That should make it easier... Hope this helps...

Depends, if you have a front loading washer, you can put it in the softener spot when you put in the detergent, if you have a top loader, you put it in when the rinse cycle comes on.

Durring the rinse cycle.  Does your wife use the Downey Ball?  If so just fill the ball to the line, pull up the top and throw in and walk away.
