When doing a spousal visa who is more responsible in showing the finances??

The person sponsoring the immigrant is responsible for proving the they can support the immigrat based on their income.

the spouse of the applicant ( sponsor). for example if the applicant is applying for a visa in UK, the sponsor should provide documents that the coming spouse will be supported and accomodated by the sponsor without recoursing to public funds.  the applicant needs to submit additional documents like means of their communication, marriage contract, pictures, etc...

The person who is resident in the country in which you wish to live. They need to be able to prove that they can support themself and their spouse for the duration of the visa. They also need to have suitable accomodation. it will clearly help if the other person is well off financially but the responsibility lies with the resident.

You are going to have to show that where you are going you have good finances that will not cause you to be a liability to the state. They want to know that you can live without aid.

I married a man from Canada and I'm a US citizen. They wanted to know his work history, BUT, ultimately it was my income that was the important one. If you're the US citizen, then you're the one who has to show proof of income at or above 125% of the poverty line for your household size to qualify to sponsor a spouse.
