  1. You don't.

This is why I believe you just can't help people; they really are their own worst enemies.

You give money to buy food for the starving and end up paying for guns for hooligans. You give money to help kids in hospitals and the hospital claws it back to pay another stuffed shirt to sit on his backside in the admin wing doing nothing all day.

People take what is good and make it in to what is bad. They take well-meaning kindness, rape it for all it's worth then just dump it by the wayside.

If people really want to make a difference they have to leave the money in their pockets and find their own ways of doing it. The trouble with throwing money at a problem is that there is no telling where it will land. But if you pay for the materials and recruit some strong arms and dedicated like-minded people you can do something worthwhile.

You don't feed the starving by dropping a quid in the pot.

    That just feeds the pot.

You feed the starving by making the land fertile and breathing life back in to it, and growing what can be eaten. You plant an apple tree and, in the fullness of time, you take the apples to the pot.

The starving can digest apples much easier than they can all the gold in the world.

  2. It depends on which charity you donate to.  Most you can research and see what portion of your donation goes to administration.  All charitable groups need to have some kind of administration - which is used for accounting because revenue needs to be reported to the state, grant writers are needed for the charities to obtain grants, some charities require medical research, etc.

A good way to donate, especially at this time of year is to your local food pantry.  You can buy cases of food and bring it directly into the food pantry.  Food pantries always run low during the summer and the people who accept and distribute the food are very typically volunteers.

  3. Less than 10% goes to the needy because its just good business to employ those who would not have been employed without the donations so forget the needy when you donate.

  4. If you donate through justgiving then the money goes straight into the charity's bank account so is a pretty safe and secure way to give to a charity.  If you are concerned about someone collecting for charity with a tin or bucket always ask to see their official documentation.  Their bucket or tine should be sealed in some way and should have the charity's registration number on it.  They should have ID as well that shows who they are.

  5. in every charity there is a percent that helps pay over head, this is a hard question, but a few that we give to. Feed the Children, American Bible Society, American Vets, and Childrens Hospital.

  6. Sadly if you look at most charities only a fraction of the money collected actually goes to the good cause!!   Most of it goes on administration and staff wages and shockingly the directors often have grossly inflated remuneration and pension packages!!!!

  7. you dont

  8. You don't, thats why you learn greed and self pity

  9. I think it reaches the charity but sometimes only about 1p  in the pound reaches the the people or cause. (UK that is)

  10. Because of a charitys reputation.
