  1. This depends on the density of the aida cloth you are using. For example, if you use 14HPI aida, it means that there are 14 "squares" per inch (for 18 HPI there are 18 "squares") and so on. The thumb rule is, that one "square" equals one full cross-stitch, i.e. one symbol or cross in the chart equals one full stitch.
