  1. Your talking about what is a small hole out of the entirety of the Ocean floor. I'm sure there is enough support surrounding for the earth to not collapse.

  3. Good question. I believe that the water seeps in to fill the void left by the removal of the oil through tiny cracks over a large area. It would be interesting to see in the future in the weight of the water actually breaks the strata and collapses the void.

  4. The holes are sealed while drilling and during production. The oil and gas are not in massive ponds: they are in the pore space of rocks so even when the oil or gas is removed the rock is still stable.
