Question:

When driving, what shoulder are you supposed to look over?

I was reading something on "How to Prepare for Your Driving Test". Under, "Moving Forward", it said to "Looks in mirrors and over shoulder before pulling into traffic." I suddenly got confused.

Thank you for your answer!

Any more tips to give when I take my driving test and driving itself are greatly appreciated!

  1. Over the shoulder of the direction you are looking. For example, if you need to look in the right mirror, look over your right shoulder as well to check your blind spot.

When pulling into traffic, you need to check your blind spot to ensure your mirrors haven't missed anything of course.  If you are coming from the right side, then you check your left mirror + blind spot!

  2. if ur a back seat driver, look over the drivers shoulders, and tell him how to drive...he he he

  3. Depends  on where the steering wheel is.  If on the left, the left shoulder to see in your blind spot.  If on the right, the right shoulder for the same reason.  The other mirror (Warning, things are closer than they appear) covers the blind spot.

  4. In australia your right shoulder In america I guess it's your left. When pulling out or overtaking I always look in my mirrors then look over my right shoulder as sometimes a car ca ne over taking you and you don't see them in your mirrors as there is a blind spot. Sit back in your seat. have your hands at the quarter to 3 or 10 to 2 position. Don't forget to look in your revision mirror often. Relax. Be prepared and watch your speed. Always stop at a stop sign even if there is nothing coming. Good luck Even if you don't pass it . Use it as a big learning experience. I hope you pass

  5. When pulling out from a curb, or changing lanes, you look over the shoulder on the side you are moving to.

Do not put your hands in the 10&2 position, that is old advice.  Use the 9&3.  10&2 is likely to put part of your hand or arm in the line of expansion of an airbag, and in an accident could snap your arm, or send you had into your face at 200 miles per hour.

  6. depends on which way you want to turn

  7. Follow the examiner's instructions. The license examiner will be looking for you to demonstrate basic driving skills and knowledge of traffic laws.

He or she is not there to trick you into making mistakes or committing traffic violations. During your test, the examiner will point out mistakes you make and will give you information that will help you correct them.

Relax, and listen to what the examiner tells you. He or she may have you repeat a maneuver to see if you can correct a mistake you made earlier.

  8. Yes there are some good answers above me.

Looking over your shoulder and checking your mirrors when making a turn or pulling into traffic is a way to to check for hazards.ie. pedestrians, bikes ,cars ect.

tip-always look and check in the direction you want to travel.
