  1. BOTH the Xbox 360 and the PS3 support divx, as both theses devices are quite common in a home theater setting, it wont be too long till they become the norm. Saying that tho, the Xbox 360 video on demand uses the WMV codec as its 'windows media video' obviously being Microsoft. Also, the Apple Tv device, soon to try and cash upon the itunes popularity would most likely use the MOV or MP4 codec as supported by Quicktime, also created by Apple.

  2. Divx was popular for two main reason:

    -Good compression using MPEG-4

-Could use it to rip a DVD in a smaller file (A DVD could fit in a CD)

    Bad news for Divx

    - DVD is going away to Blu-Ray and most download services are using H.264 or WMV

    - H.264 is far better than MPEG-4, part 2

Also, while a Divx player is free for PCs, DVD player manufacturers need to play royalties to Divx on top of what they pay for other stuff, so at some point they may decide it is not worth it.

  3. They are now. Even the PS3 can now play divx files.
