When ever i open my mouth wide it makes a popping sound, why does it do this?

My orthodontis asked me if it it did and i said no because i got scared. I though he was going to add something weird to my braces when i get them and i don't even want braces so i didn't want them to be any worse. What should i do now? PLEASE HELP ME!!!

It's called TMJ. And it was ever so stupid to lie about it. How can the dentist help you if you lie? Call him and tell him!

is it your jaw, near your ear, that makes a popping noise? it could be tmj (temporomandibular joint syndrome). i have tmj on one side and it makes a grinding noise usually, but will pop really loud sometimes.
