Is off peak a set time for train fairs? eg. 7am-9am & 4pm-7pm

I know Transport for London has it's own rules, I don't need to know about that. More interested in National Trains like Manchseter to London return.

  1. that is actually peak time you wrote  there as it is when all the computers are travelling, if you check the national rail website at

    www.nationalrail.co.uk

you will find the awnser on there.

  2. Well Im associated with Northern Trains, which covers most of the top half of England, and they seem to define peak as anything between 07.00 and 09.30, and 16.30 -18.30 on Mondays -Fridays. In common with many other companies, weekends is entirely off-peak. You may find minor variations with other cos. of course, but that is what I go by.

If youre buying a ticket though, usually, travelling or not travelling during the morning peak is what governs the ticket price rather than if youre going to travel in the evening peak. You will be charged the higher 'peak' rate if you travel before 09.30 -even if you travel before the earlier 07.00 limit mentioned above.

  3. most offer cheaper after 9am    best to buy tickets on line  two singles cheaper than asking for a return  on most trains  get used to the pages  put rail fares  in search   look out for the wireless buttons in fares page  as you will see four to six timing infront of you  and below the fare and these wireless button are your clue to the cheapest

  4. Different traffic flows have different definitions of peak/off peak, but generally the peaks are up until 09.30 and between 15.45 and 18.30. This will, of course differ between flows but is a guideline.

If you are looking for the cheapest rail travel between Manchester and London and can plan ahead, Virgin have some really cheap tickets on offer on their website www.virgin.com/trains

  5. Basically peak time is when every one is going to and from work.

Usually off peak is from 10am up to 4pm.  In London as you know you must have left London before 4pm to be able to travel at off peak fare rate.

I think you are ok again to travel after 7pm off peak and before 7am.

  6. Peak to off peak varies from location to location and length of journey.  TFL does not have its own rules these are part of the ATOC (association of train operating companies) rules and regulations that all companies abide by.

For say Manchester to London a Saver Ticket would normally be valid around 8am depending on day and time of the service reaching London.  When you go to purchase your ticket, best thing to do is ask the sales clerk for information as to which trains you can catch for the off peak fares, the evening peak is a bit of a strange one, most companies do not use the evening much, unless you are on a long journey and again that varies from train to train with some restrictions in force from only a few stations, other stations it won't be.

Good Luck sorry can not be more precise

  7. Manchester to London Return.  If you are able to have a railcard, you can buy a saver return on Virgin and use it at anytime.

If you are not able to have a railcard, then ring national rail enquiries or virgin directly and ask them for the times that are off-peak.
